A Sense of Community
"If the life of a river depended only on the rainfall within the confines of its own banks, it would soon be dry.”
It’s Christmas Day and this is the saying on my calendar. Christmas Eve is when we have our family celebration so today is very quiet. The hustle and bustle is over, presents are being enjoyed, and the stillness leads to reflection. I’m grateful beyond words to both my personal and professional team members. The folks who keep me on track so I can be in top form to give my best to each client.
Over time, team members may no longer think of themselves as a “team” but more as a “family”—a community. The best thing about community is a sense of belonging and caring among the members. The worst thing about community is - like the life of a river - the stagnation that happens when anything new (ideas, people, processes) is shunned. When a team exhibits exclusion of outside influences be prepared to deal with the beginning stages of a team in trouble.
Make the time to appreciate the strengths of each team member and what they have contributed. But, also make the time to infuse creativity through trading team members. Remember that a team does not a family make.
Until next time...live like you mean it!
