Doing More Than Expected

I’ve been thinking a lot about the characteristics that set apart a good leader from a great leader. What is that extra “something” that great leaders have? Actually, it’s more than just one thing and I offer you one today.

Great leaders go Above and Beyond. They don’t just do what is expected—they do MORE than expected. The concept seems too simple, doesn’t it? In fact, many companies pride themselves on going above and beyond for their customers.

What I’m talking about here has to do with how you show up with both external customers and internal customers. A great leader will be equally passionate about doing more for the internal organization as they are in serving paying customers.

Doing more than expected means you:

* show extra consideration and kindness when team members are going through difficulties
* meet your responsibilities head-on and are accountable for all end results
* take time to listen even when you are over-scheduled
* are always helpful and share information freely
* can be counted on in an emergency

This list is far from exhaustive but gives a sampling of what great leaders do differently. These are the leaders that make an impact in the world—they lead their organization to a better place.

Ask yourself, “How do I strive to rise above mediocrity and become an ‘Above and Beyond’ leader?”

Until next time...live like you mean it!
