Embrace Delayed Gratifaction
I doubt many would dispute that today’s society believes in instant gratification. It is a belief irrespective of race, age or gender. It is a belief woven throughout the fabric of our daily lives. For example, some may want…
* to become a millionaire in 29 days
* to get through airport security in 2 minutes and directly board a waiting plane
* to lose 100 pounds in a couple of months
Forget the fact that millionaires are rarely created instantly, extensive airport security and flight delays are normal, and your excess weight did not magically appear overnight. We want these things; we want them now; we want them without working hard to get them.
What kinds of instant expectations do you have of yourself as a team leader? Do you believe your team will communicate flawlessley after one introduction? Do you believe client problems will be handled smartly by new team members after one training class? Do you believe team members will resolve conflicts immediately when they occur? If only!
Creating a cohesive team takes time, trust, and a leader focused on the good of the whole—BOTH running of the business and team development for stellar performance. Start out on the right foot by creating your 100-Day Action Plan (much like a new Presidents’ first 100 days in office), and remember to use the power of the team to achieve your goals. One-hundred days really isn’t that long to see results.
Until next time...live like you mean it!
