Enough is Enough

I’ve had it.  I’m done. That’s enough!

As team leaders, we expend tons of energy daily on getting ourselves mentally ready, coaching our team, interacting with organizational peers, and serving customers.  Everything seems to running smoothly because you have the capacity to:
* make good, quick decisions
* handle team conflicts easily
* communicate well across departments within the company
* resolve customer problems creatively

Then it happens --

It’s usually one thing that pushes us ‘over the edge.’ If you step back and analyze the situation, you realize that - over time - you’ve competently handled a series of challenges but they seem “harder” each day.  Until one day, something simple goes wrong and you say, “I just can’t take it any more!”

This week was one of those weeks that simply blindsided me…
I’m used to long flight delays; I didn’t expect an overnight in a Chicago terminal.

I’m used to customer changes; I didn’t expect a cancellation 10 minutes prior to a meeting after having driven 100 miles to get there.

I’m used to getting a small cold; I didn’t expect a stomach virus.

I’m used to Wisconsin winter; I didn’t expect another 18” of snow and sub-zero temps.

When we haven’t anticpated the unusual is when our resiliency needs to kick in to get us through more difficult challenges.  How do you bounce back when you just feel beat up?  I’ve got some thoughts on that but want to hear some of your suggestions first.

Until next time...live like you mean it!
