Finding Momentum
Well, the house that I looked at last weekend inspired me to convert a room in my house into office space. The plans included permanently removing a futon and entertainment center, painting the room, adding a writing table, and purchasing cabinetry.
The plans went beautifully through getting rid of furniture and the painting stages. What I hadn’t factored in was the 4-6 weeks it will take for the cabinets and countertop to arrive. What began with excitement and got me half-way through the project within 24-hours has now stalled. The waiting game begins…
Keeping team energy high while you play the waiting game in your organization works much the same way. Lots of buy-in and drive at the beginning can fizzle out within months if you, as the leader, are not paying attention to team member dynamics.
The most important thing you can do to achieve your goals is to make sure, that as soon as you set them, you begin to immediately create the momentum to reach them. Don’t do this alone…
Let the creativity of your team members drive the intensity of effort to make it through the waiting time before achieving the goal.
Until next time...live like you mean it!
