Leadership: Non-Obvious Qualities
Blogging is work—at least for me it is. I can’t just plop myself in a chair and start writing beautifully crafted sentences. Instead, I draw upon my own experiences, recall exact conversations, come to a valid conclusion, and then write. So what happens when nothing interesting occurs? I find my secret file folder where I’ve stashed articles, cartoons, those annoying forwarded emails, and post-it notes with ideas. Today I went to that folder and found The Lists!
Several of us were brainstorming awhile back and created two lists: Obvious Qualities of a Leader and Non-obvious Qualities of a Leader
We present for your consideration the “short list” of non-obvious leader qualities. A leader needs to:
* leverage intuition
* leave a legacy
* manage upwards
* create fabulous first impressions
* decode company history
* foster failing
* inspire the soul
* pay it forward
My personal favorite is “Leave a Legacy.” Whether you spend a few months or years, your time will leave a mark on the organization. What will your chapter of the corporate storybook say? What characteristics do you want to leave behind with your team? Choose wisely.
Until next time...live like you mean it!
