October Whirlwind

I need to apologize.  The month of October was jam-packed with multiple out of town client projects - so much so that I was on-the-road all but 5 days.  It’s an excuse, but not a good one!  As a team leader, you see the need to maintain existing relationships and commitments, but may struggle with how to balance that with current customers.  (This is a case of ‘Do as I say’ not “Do as I do’!)

It comes down to creating - and consistent use - of an organization system that works for you.  There are tons of time management and project management systems available.  Or, you may create something just for your personal work style.  I’ve used a Franklin Covey planner for years, but forgot an important part...track EVERYTHING!  That’s how I “missed” blogging since it isn’t second nature to me yet.

What kind of things are you missing with your team because you’ve forgotten to track it?  My guess is that it’s not the big stuff (like doing an annual performance review), but the ordinary every day commitments you made.  Remember—The more times you ‘forget’ the less trust your team will have in your leadership ability.

Increase credibility with your team, peers, upper management, suppliers, and customers by focusing on what matters most—them.  I needed this reminder more for myself, and my aim is to serve you well.

Until next time...live like you mean it!
